Every summer thousands of Hindu pilgrims make the arduous journey high into the mountains to worship at the river's source and honour the river goddess.

People are threatened by the close proximity of wild animals, and the danger of flooding, yet it is the ever-changing river that ultimately sustains the great abundance of life here.
