Tetsuya made a trip to Chiba in search for a new place to make money. A young boy caught his attention at a parlor in the Boshu peninsula. It turned out that the boy's father was Boshu, the man once feared as the best in Shinjuku along with Tetsuya. Seeing how much Boshu had changed over the years, Tetsuya had trouble finding the right words to convey his feelings… But he soon realized words weren't necessary between them. Boshu challenged Tetsuya to a final battle of his career as a gambler. Tetsuya stood ready to take on his old mentor. But the, Tetsuya regained himself as he remembered something Boshu hand once taught him. Finally, Tetsuya was able to crawl his way out of Boshu's trap. Thus ended their last match together.

1x1 - The Magician of the Tiles

Tetsuya has been gaining confidence in his gambling skills since his arrival to Shinjuku. But then, a creepy-looking man came to stand in his way. In the last round of their duel, Tetsuya get to being just one tile away form scoring Kokushi Muso. He was only one step away from victory, but ended up being taken to the cleaners by Boshu, a local pro.
1x2 - The Code of the Gamblers

Tetsuya pleaded Boshu, a professional gambler, for advice. He did what he was told and went to play mahjong without a penny in his pocket. However, he was quickly confronted by a trap set for him by a gang of professional cheaters. Tetsuya went through a merciless baptism into the world of gambling… and felt the tough reality with every bone in his body.
1x3 - Requirements to Win

Tetsuya has been struggling in his battle against the gamblers of Shinjuku. Step by step, however, he has begun to get a grasp of the techniques needed to become a winner. Tetsuya went on to challenge his foe, a slick cheat called Tobi to a rematch. This time, Tetsuya got his revenge and taught Tobi a lesson he won't soon forget!
1x4 - The Best in Shinjuku

Tetsuya turned down Boshu's offer to become partners. He was confronted by a pair of twins, both professional gamblers. Tetsuya was able to decipher the gestures used by the twins to signal each other… But he was in a tough spot because he couldn't figure out how they were swapping tiles with each other. Boshu saw through their act and told Tetsuya that they're using their rings to hide the tiles. Boshu and Tetsuya decide to team up, and proceeded to crush their opponents with a stacking technique called "Double Deuce Tenho!" On that day, Japan saw the birth of Shinjuku's number one team.
1x5 - Asia vs. Shinjuku

Tetsuya and Boshu have held up to their fame as the best team in Shinjuku. One day, they challenged two men who Boshu has supposedly lost before. The duo just returned from mahjong's homeland China and called themselves the best in all Asia. Having played with their lives at stake against the pros in China, they've mastered some amazing skills. Now, they have been using those skills to bombard Tetusya with yakumans. Boshu on the other hand, hasn't done anything to help his partner. On the contrary, he has flat out ignored Tetsuya the whole game.
1x6 - The Test

Tetsuya and Boshu have held up to their fame as the best team in Shinjuku. One day, they faced off with a duo who had just returned from mahjong's homeland China. Tetsuya started the game with complete confidence in himself, but was soon taunted by the endless streaks of yakumans. To make things worse, Boshu seemed indifferent about his plight, and gave him the cold shoulder. Eventually, Tetsuya devised a trick that led them to a massive comeback. The best in Shinjuku pulled off another major victory!
1x7 - Born Lucky

Tetsuya and Boshu have kept their fame as the best in Shinjuku, as no one has been able to take the title away from them. But then, something disastrous happened to Boshu! He messed up his dice throw! Having left speechless, Boshu felt that his worst fears of losing his touch had come true. Tetsuya wasn't ready to give up though, as he began to fight back using all the tricks Boshu had taught him! His determination went as far as to win him the favor of the gods! Sensing that his gambling days were over, Boshu said goodbye to Tetsuya and left Shinjuku behind him, never to return again…
1x8 - The Grim Reaper

Six months have passed since Boshu disappeared from Shinjuku. Tetsuya has become known as Kid Tetsu, the feared mahjong pro. A young man called Danchi has been following him everywhere he goes. Then, a creepy looking man, named Innami, appeared before them, bragging about being able to see through the tiles. Innami was the first true gambler Tetsuya met years ago. But in his current state, Innami didn't bear almost any resemblance to the person Tetsuya once knew.
1x9 - The Battle Against Death

Innami was the first true gambler Tetsuya had met years ago. When Tetsuya saw Innami in his current state, he felt no compassion towards him. On the contrary, he decided it was his duty to stick the final nail in his coffin! In order to counter Innami's All-Seeing Eye, Tetsuya forced him to play with a set of black plastic tiles. As was expected, Innami panicked and his game crumbled into pieces. But then, amidst his desperation, a feint, creepy grin started rising to his face…
1x10 - The Devil’s Eye Returns
January 13, 2001
Tetsuya used black plastic tiles to counter Innami’s All-Seeing Eye, and proceeded to dominate the first game. In the second game, Innami finally broke his creepy silence. After scoring a haneman, he busted Tetsuya by trapping him with a diasangen. This gave Innami the second game. Innami’s All-Seeing Eye had made its comeback! In the third and final game, now that Innami got his vision back, there has been nothing anyone can do to stop him. Finally, Tetsuya said he figured out a way to defeat him, and focused on the upcoming climax! What did Tetsuya mean by the edge he was talking about?
1x11 - The End of Darkness

Going into the third and last game, the score was even. Innami was able to see all the tiles in Tetsuya's hand, and was convinced that he will win the game. But then, Tetsuya took advantage of Innami being a lefty, and managed to trap him with a daisangen! It could be said that the real blind spot was in Innami's conceited mind, as he neglected to use his All-Seeing Eye at a crucial moment. Tetsuya watched as the first true gambler he ever met, disappeared into the pitch black darkness… This was the last time Tetsuya would ever see Innami again.
1x12 - The Immortal Girl

Tetsuya became curious after Danchi told him about his newest nemesis… He was surprised to see a young girl, who was having trouble handling the tiles! She hand an amazing gift which allowed her to avoid discarding winning tiles, thus making her practically invincible. After her gambler boyfriend left her, she lost her ability to speak… Ever since then, she has been playing mahjong hoping to run into him again. Lisa and Tetsuya became partners and went on to play against a wannabe-Yankee, who was more than eager to win Lisa as his girlfriend. The wannabe-Yankee came close to scoring a Double Yakuman, but as it turned out, Lisa managed to prevent it with a Chombo!
1x13 - The Delicate Flower

Tetsuya and Lisa once again faced off with the wannabe-Yankee. For a moment they thought they were in for an easy win, but suddenly, Lisa threw away the wannabe-Yankee's winning tile! She lost her gift of immortality the moment she caught a glimpse of the man she was looking for. Tetsuya was then faced with the wannabe-Yankee's 8-way Pin draw, and received a sign from Lisa indicated which one his two tiles is safe. Tetsuya, however, decided to discard the tile opposite of what Lisa indicated! Tetsuya knew that she was still off her game, so he followed the iron rune of gambling and did the opposite of what she recommended. This could also be seen as Tetsuya's kindness towards her.
1x14 - The Broken Telephone

Danchi felt a strange kind of antagonism towards an old couple he saw in a mahjong parlor. Tetsuya saw through their act and realized they were professionals. Danchi, however, continued to ignore the signs Tetsuya was giving him. This old couple was in fact responsible for wrecking Danchi's home back when he was a child! Danchi was burning with rage as he came with Tetsuya to challenge them to a rematch. However, Danchi lost his nerve again, and this time he got to feel the wrath of Tetsuya's Yakuman! Danchi broke his ties with Tetsuya and walked away into the rain…
1x15 - Partners

Konbi no kizuna. Danchi challenged the old couple responsible for wrecking his home, the Nezu's, into a rematch. However, he wasn't able to break their tight teamwork! Danchi broke his ties with Tetsuya, trained himself a new partner and went on a rampage. Tetsuya then challenged Danchi into a final showdown! Danchi tried using all the tricks in the book, but he was still no match for Tetsuya's skills. Danchi finally understood what Tetsuya had tried to teach him, and regained his composure in order to defeat his nemesis, the Nezus!
1x16 - A True Gambler

A gambler should never let his feelings cloud his judgment! Danchi took Tetsuya's lesson by heart, and regained composure. Yet again, he went on to challenge his nemesis, the Nezus. Danchi finally managed to disrupt their teamwork and while his father watched from the side, he completely crushed his opponents! Danchi then returned to tell Tetsuya the good news. Tetsuya was glad that Danchi was back, and didn't say a word.

During his trip to Chiba, Tetsuya was reunited with Boshu. Tetsuya then decided to face the one hurdle he was still yet to cross. To call Boshu a mere hurdle was an understatement. He stood in front of Tetsuya like a rock, blocking every move.
1x19 - Dora! Dora! Dora!

Tetsuya was mourning his parting with Boshu when an uninvited guest came through the door. Tetsuya proceeded to challenge this gambler who called himself Dora Bomb Taka. Every time Taka wins a hand, his Dora Bomb strikes with devastating accuracy! But as soon as Tetsuya realized the Dora Bomb was a stacking technique, he devised a plan to counter it by making use of Taka's single wait. What was the secret order Tetsuya gave to Danchi?
1x20 - Our World
March 24, 2001
Tetsuya and Danchi begin use several tactics to draw in and trap Taka using open riichi and single waits and his own dora bomb against him. In the last hand Tetsuya with the aid of Boshu's spirit pulls off a tsubame gaeshi, earning a double yakuman.
