LAI advises CHAI to pretend to have declared war on Chai. It is anticipated that Prince YAU, who is eager to protect his grandfather, will soon come back to mediate. TSIN behaves as if he is no longer concerned about his country, but in reality he has got a plan in mind. He meets his countrymen in secret and encourages them to keep up the struggle until he reclaims the throne. TSIN leads a frugal life in Yuet so as to remind himself of all his humiliations while serving under CHAI. He learns from LUK YING that FUNG has been spying on him. To make CHAI less vigilant towards him, TSIN leaves the affairs of state to CHUNG and pretends that he is fooling around day in and day out. The rulers of Chan, Sung and Cheng who owe LAI a debt of gratitude agree to offer help without hesitation....

Standing in front of the tomb of his father HOP LUI, Lord FU CHAI of the State of Ng recalls the bloody war against the State of Yuet – former Lord of Ng HOP LUI mounted an invasion of Yuet but Yuet’s troops had been too tough to defeat. Ng’s Prime Minister NG CHI SHUI advised CHAI to go and borrow some provisions from the State of Chai. Yuet had been under siege for quite some time. LAI manages to break away from the enemies and is finally reunited with TSIN on the mountain. The capital city of Yuet is filled with an atmosphere of tension and hopelessness. CHAI has announced that whoever promises to take in Prince YAU will be deemed to be his enemy. CHUNG expresses his love for KOK. Prince YAU is misled into believing that KOK has been in love with CHUNG and that she goes out with him only because of his status. Feeling so frustrated, Prince YAU walks off in silence. KOK tries to catch up with Prince YAU but in vain – he is already on his way to Chai. In order to keep the promise he made to Lord of Tsun, CHAI needs Prince YAU to come back to hold the wedding ceremony no matter what.
