1x1 - Episode 1

June 6, 2005

Being regarded as the “Cake Lord”, KO KAN indulges in his work all the time. His wife LAY is dissatisfied and runs away with their son KO BUN. In order to stop them at the airport, KAN claims that he has got a bomb. He is sent to jail eventually. After broken up with her boyfriend, TONG SHEUNG sets up a little cake shop regardless of her father TONG SUM’s objection. KAN misses his son. He therefore uses the nickname of “Cake Robin Hood” to cheer up single parent children by sending them beautiful cakes. KAN goes to SUM’s laundry shop, Sum Kee, to pick up BUN’s pirate ship toy. The shopkeeper, MO SZ, refuses to return the toy to him because he is late. SHEUNG is surprised to receive a cake from the “Cake Robin Hood”. SHEUNG’s cake shop, “Dream Workshop”, is opened. Her younger brother, TONG CHIM, and cousin, TAU HO HO, come to the opening celebration. SA PA YUNG, the owner of a chain cake shop, Gateux, invites KAN to join them.… ...

KAN’s hands have a lower temperature than average, which is ideal for making chocolate decorations. KAN wins the contest with a “Black Forrest Pirate Ship Cake”. SHEUNG comes out suddenly and blames KAN for copying somebody else’s work. YUNG’s unruly daughter, SA LAI, introduces KAN to their experienced chef, CHEUNG TAN FAT. FAT learns that KAN is not easy to get along with and he asks his subordinates to put him on their guard. YUNG asks KAN to manage the kitchen and LAI is dissatisfied. KAN met a teddy boy, whose name is SUEN YU LOK, when he was in the prison. KAN helps LOK to take care of his street stall. SHEUNG reports this to the Public Health Inspectors and KAN is arrested. “Dream Workshop” is on fire and SHEUNG is very sad. KAN suggests giving trainings to new apprentices so as to improve their standard. LAI objects while YUNG appreciates the idea. SHEUNG finds that KAN is nearby when “Dream Workshop” was on fire.… ...

SHEUNG, LOK and PO LONG are chosen to be the new cake trainees. SUM wishes that SHEUNG could continue his business but SHEUNG declares that her interest is on cake making. SUM is upset. KAN gives LOK the opportunity to be a cake trainee because LOK has once saved his life. SHEUNG feels exhausted after the first working day. CHIM asks her to give up but she is determined to take revenge. SZ tyrannizes in the laundry shop as if she was the boss’ wife. SHEUNG is not happy about it. SUM lies to his children by saying that their mother TAM WUI HEUNG has died. The truth is that HEUNG has deserted her kids and husband to go abroad to learn cake making. After learning that SHEUNG has come to Gateux to take revenge, LAI tries to draw SHEUNG to her side to fight against KAN. SUM finds that FAT is afraid of staying close to the oven. FAT reveals that this is caused by an accident in the early days. LAI fights with KAN on behalf of FAT.… ...

KAN is unable to attend the press conference on time. FAT takes his place as the host. He performs badly during the event and feels very unhappy. KAN helps FAT to overcome his phobia on oven and FAT regains the title of the “King of Cake Crust”. KAN launches a new series of cakes featuring the ocean. Everybody appreciates his idea very much. A TV station has invited LAI’s cake shop to join their fund-raising event. LAI is happy for having the chance to gain popularity. KAN uses chocolate as the main ingredient to make some sculptures resembling ice sculptures for the fund-raising event. YUNG supports him. SHEUNG and CHIM have discovered that their mother is alive. They question SUM and the truth is finally revealed. HEUNG has lost her memory while studying abroad and her name has been changed to KUK KEI. She has returned to Hong Kong with her older sister KUK YIU.… ...

KAN restores the shape of the chocolate sculptures swiftly and everyone is amazed. SUM pretends to be ill and urges SHEUNG to help him in the laundry shop. SHEUNG reluctantly applies for annual leaves to help him. KEI enquires about KAN’s family background but he doesn’t answer her. KAN meets LAY on the street and she tries to embarrass him. KEI requests SHEUNG to collect clothes from her house and they quarrel with each other on the laundry charge. SHEUNG discovers that SUM is pretending to be sick and she feels upset. BUN gets lost on the street and comes to the cake shop where SHEUNG works. SHEUNG looks after him carefully. SHEUNG finds many photos of BUN in KAN’s office and realizes that BUN is KAN’s son. KAN is happy to meet BUN again and they share some happy moments together. SHEUNG learns from LOK that KAN is not involved in the fire and realizes then that she has blamed him wrongly.… ...

BUN’s asthma breaks out. KAN and LAY are worried. KAN wants to spend more time with BUN but LAY prevents him from seeing BUN. Her fiance, ROBERT, advises her to make peace with KAN instead. KAN thinks that KEI is treating BUN badly. He realizes later that this is only a misunderstanding. KAN asks SHEUNG to teach him how to play children arcade game; she teaches him attentively. LAI asks KAN to compete with the “Cheese Cake Queen”, CHI CHING SEI LEUNG, in the coming international contest. KAN refuses since he needs to take care of his son. KEI hurts herself in a yoga class. The yoga instructor, CHIM, accompanies her to see the doctor. KEI, who is a mean person, requests CHIM to pay for her medical fees. SHEUNG meets KEI and the two quarrels with each other again over trivial matters. YUNG’s cake shops are having satisfactory returns after hiring KAN. He thus grants long holidays to KAN as an incentive. KAN meets LEUNG by chance.… ...

KEI makes a fantastic apple cheesecake when she is sleepwalking. KAN is inspired by her and decides to join the contest with a similar recipe. SHEUNG and LONG look everywhere in Hong Kong to look for apples from different countries for KAN. SHEUNG has learnt a lot from helping KAN preparing for the contest. She decides to stop fighting with him and work hard to improve her skills. BUN has another asthma attack after eating a cake with alcohol as ingredients. LAY blames KAN for his carelessness. Seeing what ROBERT has done for LAY and BUN, KAN believes that ROBERT really loves them and will take good care of them. KEI makes another cake during her sleepwalking. KAN asks her about the ingredients but she has no idea at all. During the contest, LEUNG tries to make the best of her time but KAN prepares the ingredients slowly. Everyone is puzzled.

Inspired by KEI, KAN has made a perfect cheesecake and wins the contest. SHEUNG is overjoyed. BUN is unhappy that KAN didn’t show up in his birthday party because of the contest. SHEUNG blames KAN for breaking his promise; he retorts that it’s none of her business. As a matter of fact, KAN did so to make BUN hate him and return to his mother, this way he can have a complete family. BUN is sick. SHEUNG visits him and sees in his place a “Black Forrest Pirate Ship Cake” left by the “Cake Robin Hood”. She deduces that KAN is the “Cake Robin Hood”. She looks into it and proves herself right. Realizing that she has wrongly blamed KAN, SHEUNG decides to patch up the father and son. KAN and LAY’s relationship has improved too because of her help. SHEUNG wants to learn from KAN, but he refuses to take her student. LOK is scolded by KAN for a mistake. He is so upset that he hands in his resignation.… ...

LOK begs KAN to give him a second chance. KAN lets him work at Gateux again. LOK is assigned to work in the front desk. He is told off by HO for always chatting with the waiters. LOK searches through the cake shop for the treasure. KEI tells SUM that she has lost her memory and that she has no idea as to why she knows how to make cakes. KEI does not understand why SZ seems rattled about hers return. SZ has been secretly in love with SUM for years, but SUM sees her as his subordinate only. With a view to improving her memory, KEI requests to work in the cake shop. KAN agrees. A customer, Mr WA, is running after HO. HO uses LOK to deter WA from getting close to her. SHEUNG asks HO why she is so afraid of going out with guys. HO tells her that it is all because of her parents’ divorce. SHEUNG and KEI argue with each other over trivial matters every now and then.… ...

The daughter of Mr Lau, a celebrity in town, is getting married. They order a wedding cake from Gateux. LAI is overjoyed and sees this as an opportunity to get famous. SHEUNG has a mixed feeling when she comes across her ex-boyfriend, LEUNG, whose fiancee is Mr Lau’s daughter, LAU LIN.LIN mistakes that SHEUNG still likes LEUNG. She is so burnt with jealousy that she cancels the cake order. LAI blames SHEUNG; SHEUNG is speechless. KAN gives SHEUNG a hand in secret and gets back the order. SHEUNG is happy that LAI can blame her no more. KAU plans to gain access to Gateux. With the help of LOK and with a stratagem, he has won LAI’s trust and she hires him as her bodyguard. LIN is very picky about the ingredients and design of the cake. Workers at the cake shop blame SHEUNG for this. SHEUNG feels helpless. Her recent setbacks have led her lose her confidence at work.… ...

SUM learns that SHEUNG is having a hard time at work. He asks her to work for him at the laundry shop. LAI has found an excuse to fire SHEUNG and to hire someone to take her place. KAN fights with LAI for SHEUNG. LOK is unable to pay for the rent and is kicked out by his landlord. He turns to KAN for help. KEI feeds LOK on cakes when she is sleepwalking. LOK is scared to death and wants to move out. But not long after he realizes that she is just sleepwalking. KAN goes to SUM’s laundry. SHEUNG mistakes that he has come to ask her to go back to the cake shop. LONG recommends some scientific books to HO. She tries to reject him but fails. SHEUNG remembers that her mother used to make delicious cakes for her when she was young. She decides to go back to Gateux for her mother and also for her dream. KAN and his men have finished LIN’s wedding cake. LAI, nevertheless, is not satisfied with it and demands them to make another one.… ...

The cake, which is made with SHEUNG’s ideas, proves to be a success. LIN is satisfied with it and every single guest thinks very highly of KAN’s talent in cake making. KAN praises SHEUNG in front of everyone. She is delighted. KAN teaches SHEUNG wholeheartedly. The seed of love has started to grow between the two. SZ has awoken YIU accidentally. She worries that KEI will recover her memory because of YIU. In order to hide away from KEI, she goes traveling with SUM. YUNG suggests organizing a competition to train the shop’s newcomers. KAN agrees to his idea. KAN is shocked to learn by chance that KEI is the “French Cake Queen” TAM WUI HEUNG. YIU tells KAN how KEI lost her memory. KAN is sorry for KEI. LAI is being very unreasonable. KAU has to put up with her though if he is to find out about the hidden treasure. LOK and LONG declare their love for HO respectively. They also swear to win the competition in order to win HO’s heart.… ...

SUM denounces her for leaving the family. She is puzzled by what he says. KAN tells SUM that KEI has lost her memory and the story behind. Years ago, KEI beat her master in a contest. Unable to bear this, he has gone mad. She was terribly guilty, so much that she jumped into a river to end her life. She was saved, but she has lost her memory. KAN suggests buying new kitchen facilities. LAI says that she will do so if SHEUNG wins the competition. KAN agrees to her condition. KAN accepts SHEUNG as his apprentice finally. SHEUNG is thrilled to bits. KEI has hurt SHEUNG accidentally. As a token of apology, she sends her a gift in secret. SHEUNG, however, mistakes that it is from KAN. HO faints out in the cold room. LOK comes to her rescue in time. HO is very grateful to him. She has also found that she has fallen in love with him. LOK tries to please HO in every way. In order to hide away from LOK, HO tries to get close to LONG.… ...

KAN buys SHEUNG a wristlet. He is displeased when KEI laughs at him. SHEUNG reveals her love for KAN but is sad to have been rejected. KAN rejects her because he is afraid of a second failure in marriage. For the same reason he has been suppressing his feelings. KAN has been very emotional recently because of SHEUNG. His body temperature, which is usually lower than average, has therefore risen. As a result, he cannot control the chocolate as he usually does. He realizes then that he has fallen in love with SHEUNG. LOK is lovesick. KAU hits LONG for him. YUNG mistakes that it is LOK who has hurt LONG. He forbids him from taking part in the competition. In order to keep a distance from SHEUNG, KAN is deliberately mean towards her. SHEUNG is hurt. On the day of the competition, SHEUNG cannot concentrate at all, making everybody worried. KEI encourages KAN to express himself. KAN overcomes his hang-ups eventually.… ...

LAI has got hold of YIU’s secret. YIU has no choice but to lie to SHEUNG as told by LAI. LAI also asks YIU to leave Hong Kong immediately. KEI finds it suspicious that YIU has to leave so suddenly. Because of LAI instigation, everyone in the TONG family has misunderstood KAN, who can do nothing about it. KEI and SUM are both stubborn and they argue all the time. KEI has been living with KAN for quite a while and she can see that he truly loves SHEUNG. SHEUNG, however, doesn’t believe so. LAI and PAUL try to sow discord between SHEUNG and KAN. SHEUNG listens to their incitement and presents a letter of challenge to KAN, who can do nothing else but to accept it. LOK has not given up his hope on HO because he is positive that she will accept him one day. SHEUNG knows that she is no match to KAN. She asks KEI to teach her her master blow, the Mother’s hands. Unwilling to see them fight, KEI turns down her request.… ...

June 28, 2005

SHEUNG has come round. KEI and SUM’s attempt to persuade her not to fight with KAN is futile. SHEUNG has done extremely well and wins. LAI appoints SHEUNG as the Chief Chef, which means that KAN has been replaced. LAI recommends PAUL to YUNG but he refuses to hire PAUL. PAUL flies into a rage and goes arguing with YUNG. YUNG has a heart attack in the middle of the argument. KAN comes to know that LAI’s instigation is the reason why SHEUNG has been acting against him. Nevertheless, he does not have a clue why LAI has to speak ill of him. HO is touched by LOK’s sincerity and finally accepts him as her boyfriend. LAI has taken YUNG’s place for the time being for he has not recovered from the attack yet. She appoints PAUL her assistant. Although she has beat KAN, she is not happy. On the contrary, she feels miserable. KAN is leaving Hong Kong when the police, for reasons he does not know, stop him at the airport.

June 29, 2005

It turns out that an explosion broke out in Gateux. LAI points the finger at KAN, who denies at once. KAN gives up hope in himself after what has happened recently. In order to give him another blow, LAI announces that KAN has nothing to do with Gateux from now on. SHEUNG’s heart aches, seeing KAN has given up himself entirely. KAU sneaks into the cake shop for the treasure but is caught by LOK. LOK has found a colossal amount of money in the shop. He is about to hand in the money to the police when the news that HO has been kidnapped by LONG comes to him. A fire breaks out in LONG’s place. HO is trapped. LOK risks his life to save HO. He has left the money in the scene of the fire and it is all burnt. HO cheers SHEUNG up and encourages her to get back to KAN. SHEUNG, who is stubborn, just does not listen to her. SHEUNG misses KAN, so much so that she has to go and see him in no time. She faints on her way.… ...

SHEUNG has decided not to risk her life for the operation. Gateux’s patent will expire soon. PAUL suggests competing with their competitor, the GA LIN Corporation, in a contest. Paul resigns as soon as LAI has announced the competition. To her huge surprise and disappointment, PAUL is one of the shareholders of GA LIN. His egging LAI into competing with GA LIN is nothing more than his stratagem to control Gateux. LAI realizes only then that she should not have trusted him. With the help of YIU, KEI is reconciled with her master. SHEUNG learns from KEI’s experience that teacher-and-student conflicts bring only bad consequences. YIU reveals to SHEUNG that she spoke ill of KAN because she was under the threat of LAI. SHEUNG regrets what she has done to KAN. She tells KEI her illness. KEI stands by her in fighting her illness. LAI begs KAN to give her a hand and fight with PAUL. KAN refuses.… ...

SHEUNG’s health is getting worse. But she insists on taking part in the contest. To her, life is no longer important, and her only wish is that KAN could regain his confidence. SHEUNG is glad to see KAN performing very well in the contest. She blacks out in the contest and is unable to celebrate with KAN his success. KAN comes to realize what she has been doing for him. He decides to be by her side when she is fighting her disease. LAI has become humble after the incident. She starts work from the beginning and works as a trainee. What is more, she encourages KAU to learn with her. KAN takes leave to accompany SHEUNG. Now that KAN will be away for a while, LAI promotes FAT to Chief Chef. LOK has won a diamond ring in a lucky draw. HO agrees to marry him. SHEUNG’s health is deteriorating and has to rely on medication. KAN is worried to death. Unwilling to see him suffer, she has made up her mind…
