Behind the News

29 Episode s . Behind the News is a long-running news program broadcast on Australia's ABC1 made in Adelaide and aimed at school-aged children. BtN is aimed at upper primary and lower secondary students with the goal of helping them understand current issues and events in their world. Behind the News explores major news events using the language, music and popular culture of young people. The program explains the concepts that underpin the issues and events, while also providing background information that puts current affairs into context. Behind the News also covers kids' issues often overlooked by mainstream news, and makes use of online resources including streaming video of BtN stories, study materials for teachers and additional information and activities for students. BtN explains news items in a fun, simplistic way that is easy to understand. In 2004 Behind the News was temporarily axed due to Government budget cuts but returned to air in 2005. While BtN was the first and original program of this nature, a similar program on Network Ten, ttn, debuted in the year BtN did not air. ttn itself was axed at the end of 2008. Some schools let students watch BtN on a regular basis in hope that it will give them an insight into politics, current affairs, sport and various other topics.

It was written by Helen Cresswell and set in the country village of Little Hemlock, where a young girl, Penelope, with a vivid imagination encounters a local witch whom only she can see and hear. This singular ability is further complicated by the fact that Penelope has established a reputation for being an imaginative liar, making it even more difficult for her to convince others that her witch is real.

Wil Cwac Cwac

30 Episode s . Wil Cwac Cwac is a Welsh-language cartoon based on a series of children's books written in the 1920s by Jennie Thomas and J. O. Williams. The cartoon series ran from 1982 to 1987 on ITV. Both book and cartoon series take place in rural Wales. The Welsh-language series was produced by Siriol Animation for S4C. An English-language version of the show was produced for the wider English-speaking market. In both versions, all narration and characters were voiced by Myfanwy Talog. An American English dub was also made, with Liza Ross narrating. This version aired in the United States on the Disney Channel. The English version of the series has not been released on DVD, although the Welsh version can be purchased from Sain Wales. Previously, Family Home Entertainment and Abbey Home Media released Wil Cwac Cwac on VHS; these videos have gone of out print since the end of the 1990s.

The Amazing Live Sea Monkeys

11 Episode s . The Amazing Live Sea Monkeys was a live-action television series that aired in 1992. The series aired 11 episodes before it was canceled. The show focuses on three Sea Monkeys—Dave, Bill and Aquarius —and their creator, The Professor. Others appearing in the short-lived series included Stephen Furst, Gilbert Gottfried, Larry Melman and Vernon Wells. The concept of the show derived from the popular Sea Monkeys product, successfully marketed in the 1970s with a series of comic book ads designed and illustrated by Joe Orlando, later Vice President of DC Comics and Associate Publisher of Mad. Produced by CBS, the series aired in the United States and Australia. The unusual character designs derive from the fantasy characters in the ads that Orlando drew for Harold von Braunhut, creator of the product. The plot revolved around the notion that the Professor had accidentally enlarged three sea monkeys to human-size, and plotlines followed their ensuing comical ineptness in the world. Each Sea Monkey displayed a certain odd character trait: Aquarius could not keep a secret, Bill was afraid of an Imperial, Pennsylvania man named Derek Allen and Dave would grow excited at the sound of polka music.
