1x1 - Episode 1

Constable, KO CHUNG CHING, receives information that the serial killer, nickname “Rose Killer” frequently haunts a certain building. When CHING takes his colleagues to follow the case, he meets his son, KO TSUN SING, on the way. SING asks his father to play the game of ‘police-and-thief’ with him; CHING scolds him in anger because he is on official business to make arrest; the ‘Rose Killer’ is alerted as a result and he escapes. When CHING returns home and he tries to celebrate SING’s birthday, his son is nowhere to be found. It seems that his son evaporates into the thin air. Two years later, CHING divorces his wife, HO YEE MAN; he also leaves the Police Department and sets up a private detective office. MAN TAI PO and LAM YAN YAN, the subordinates of CHING, disguise as massage girls; they successfully obtain the criminal evidence against the targeted person. After knowing that SIU has seen SING on the day of his missing, CHING hurries to look for her to dig out more information. Unexpectedly TSAU uses a child actor to play the role of SING; CHING is disappointed and leaves. Out of mistake, TSAU drops the pair of sport shoes in the street; the sport shoes that CHING bought and intended to give SING as birthday gift two years ago. KWOK CHING, the grandpa of YAN, comes to the detective office for seeking help, hoping that the detective office can locate his missing sport shoes that he lost 25 years ago. Actually, KWOK CHING was “Golden Right Leg” of one of the Hong Kong football teams in those days. Ever since he lost the pair of lucky sport shoes, he became unlucky and discouraged in his football life. CHING starts to investigate from the old soccer fans, but he fails to obtain any information.… ...

SIU tells CHING in details about the scenario in which she met SING on that day of his missing; she also takes CHING to the place where she met SING two years ago. At that time, CHING suddenly recalls that SING saw him being reprimanded by his superior, YEUNG KWONG; SING might have mistaken that CHING would get dismissed from the job because of SING’s playful behavior to ask his father to play ‘police-and-thief’. As a result, SING was so scared that he did not return home; CHING blames himself. SIU acts in the bathing scene to replace a movie star, Ann; SIU meets Joey, who she has once seen before and who is an expert in drawing sketches. At that time, Ann arrives at the studio and she brings along with a pet dog, Napoleon; Joey immediately leaves on seeing Ann. Napoleon has gone missing, while SIU requests CHING to help find the dog.… ...

Ann is strangled to death while Joey is in coma. After CHING takes the Chief Inspector, KOON CHING WAN, to the room for investigation, CHING suspects that Rose Killer has kidnapped SING for revenge. CHING hopes to participate in the investigation, but is refused. Joey regains consciousness and she talks about what has happened, but she is unable to describe the culprit’s features; WAN is disappointed. When SIU plays the substitute role in the movie once again for Ann, the ghost of Ann appears, making SIU very scared. For detecting the killer and for locating SING, PO follows WAN to Sophia Cafe. SAU WAH, the elder sister of WAN and the boss of Sophia Cafe, mistakes that PO has a good feeling on WAN; WAN is embarrassed while PO cannot help but laughs.… ...

Joey wants to die together with SIU, while CHING and WAN rescue SIU in time. Joey falls off the building, injuring her brain and becoming a living dead. CHING is very agitated, questioning further from Joey for the whereabouts of SING. WAI advises CHING to give up looking for SING, while CHING says he wants to find a good doctor in mainland China to cure Joey. After having received call from WAH in tears, WAN hurries to Sofia Cafe; there he comes to know that a burglary has taken place. WAH asks WAN to look for the missing safe, not allowing him to report the case to police. WAN secretly reads her diary and he finds there are blank pages inside. WAN requests CHIU and others to look for the safe; PO even pretends to be WAN’s girlfriend to get close to WAH. PO and WAN discover that WAH does not write diary, but she writes to communicate with someone. CHIU eventually locates the safe.… ...

MAN thinks that SING has a misfortune; she is so heart-broken that she collapses and is sent to hospital. When MAN wakes up, she accuses CHING instigates the killer to have SING killed; CHING feels guilty for this. WAN comes to private detective office to hire PO and her colleagues in order to check out who is WAH’s secret lover. PO has already known that WAH’s lover is FONG KA SHUN, a rich merchant; PO asks TSAU to find a temporary actor to pretend to be SHUN; PO also tells WAH to play a separation act with the “pretended” SHUN in front of WAN. WAN highly comments PO for her efficiency in the investigating job, wondering why she does not join the police; PO puts on a long face on hearing this. TSAU does not understand why WAH loves SHUN in such a way that she does not care for the marital status; WAH answers that she has a great satisfaction as she understands SHUN better than his wife, KONG LAI PING.… ...

When FAI hurries to the spot, PO in the critical situation tells YAN to pretend as Alice; FAI is overjoyed, saying that Alice is the person who is his closest friend; he further says that he does not want to see his mother; PING is heart-broken to hear that. CHIU accuses PO and YAN for cheating FAI, but PO does not think so. PING secretly looks for famous doctor to cure FAI’s eyes and she finds FAI a new home; she pretends to be a mute, Sister LAN, in order to take care of him. KEI CHI HIM, a son from a rich family, comes to CHING’s private detective office, asking to help find his goal of life; CHING drives him out of the office for his unreasonable request. CHING is feeling down; SIU advises CHING that he should take up the case to look for the goal of life for HIM, so that he can help himself and help other in the process.… ...

PING goes on to ask YUNG if PO is his daughter; YUNG replies in an evasive manner. SHUN questions PING about the relationship between her and YUNG, but PING counter-attacks by asking his relationship with WAH. CHING wants HIM to live independently and to work on his own; SIU suggests HIM to do the job as a temporary actor. The director comments HIM for his seriousness in acting; HIM is so encouraged and he decides to make performance his lifelong goal. SHING objects HIM’s idea, disclosing that his mother died just because of show business, to which HIM comes to know that his mother is someone else. SHING tells HIM the past in detail; he further let HIM do what he wants to do; HIM is overjoyed. HIM visits SIU in the studio, where he denotes to SIU that he will go to New York to study drama. Before he leaves, he confesses his love to SIU. YUNG tells CHING how and why he separated PING and how he got into the prison.… ...

PING and YUNG go to FAI’s piano performance. Before the performance, PING is astounded that FAI has known her identity. Her heart is torn apart when FAI says that she is the most hated person in his life. Actually, PO discloses the secret to FAI for revenge; YUNG slaps PO in anger after knowing PO’s work. For that, PO hates PING even more. FAI cancels the performance; he breaks his left hand fingers in order not to play piano again. PING blames herself as a doctor tells her that FAI no longer has the physical ability to play piano. PO avoids seeing YUNG intentionally. As a result of some clue, CHING figures out that PO will go to see FAI in hospital. PO and PING have gone missing; YUNG receives a call from LAW PAU, head of gangsters in those days; he leaves immediately. After knowing that PING is her mother, PO feels guilty for making FAI breaking his fingers.… ...

WAN is between believing and suspicion as TSAU claims to be the new boyfriend of WAH. WAH plays a role in a performance. As required by the show, WAN puts a scarf round the neck of TSAU; she cannot help but kisses TSAU; he has a sense that he is flying to the moon for this. For the sake of FAI, PING is willing to accept YUNG and PO to be her relatives, but she is sad while FAI does not forgive her. On seeing PING is unwell, YAN takes her to see doctor; PING asks YAN not to disclose her sickness. SHUN does not want to hide his love affair with WAH; he tries to take WAH to see his mother, LAM SHUK YIN. WAN finally finds that WAH continues to have contact with SHUN; WAN goes to drink his unhappiness away while PO consoles him. WAN mistakes that he has sex with PO; He denotes that he will take the responsibility for what he has done; PO smiles stealthily.… ...

FAI discloses that he will make a global tour for performance; he announces that PING will go together with him as he will use the eyes of PING to see around the world. YUNG and PO are reluctant to part. WAN is unhappy as WAH gives him the cold shoulder. For helping WAN, PO beats him with fists; this tactic works and the brother and sister become friends again. WAH gives PO the jade bangle that her late mother gave her; PO is surprised. Accidentally, PO comes to know the fake passport case is connected with SING; WAN asks PO to keep it as secret. When CHING pays worship to SING, he meets MAN. They both have dinner together; MAN frankly points out that CHING is not romantic enough. TSAU sees his mother, WONG SIU TIM, having a date a young foreigner, William; he worries his mother may be cheated. TIM has gone missing.… ...

WAN and his subordinates find out that the mastermind of the fake passport case is Kill Bill; they infer that SING is still alive. WAN discovers that PO has planted 13 pieces of needle-point camera in his house, he then teases her. After knowing that there are lots of prostitutes in Bill’s Karaoke, PO comes up with an idea. CHING wants to restart courting MAN again; he uses SIU as the role model for practicing his courting skill. Knowing nothing about this, SIU goes happily to attend the appointment, where she is disappointed and leaves at the end. When SIU prepares the candlelit dinner for CHING and MAN, she sees MAN buy a necktie, thinking that it is for CHING. In front of the candlelit dinner table, MAN confesses to CHING that she has a boyfriend; CHING has a sense of loss. WAN and his subordinates, LUNG, go to investigate in a Karaoke, where they are surprised to see PO acting as prostitute in order to get close to Bill.… ...

WAI is unsettled when he has a dream that CHING comes to know they have hidden SING. Next morning, SING demands to see CHING; MAN lies to SING that CHING has not forgiven him yet. Joey finally wakes up and she denies to have taken SING away. CHING then decides to go to Macau for investigation. By this chance, WAI and MAN bring SING to buy model plane; SING does not oppose to WAI and MAN’s marriage; MAN is jubilant. For rescuing SING, WAI is knocked down by a car. For fear that police may see SING, WAI tells MAN to leave with SING. SUI escorts the high fever CHING back to Hong Kong; he denotes that he will not give up looking for SING. Knowing that CHING misses SING very much, WAI takes SING to see CHING stealthily. However, MAN comes to know it and she cries, saying that she will not let CHING to take away SING. On seeing SING downstairs, CHING rushes down, regardless his own weak body.… ...

SIU sees SING in CHING’s house; she knows that MAN and WAI have hidden SING away all the time. SIU tells TSAU that SING is not the biological son of CHING. She further says to TSAU that if she is not the biological daughter of him, she will hate him; TSAU feels a chill at his spine. The asthma on SING recurs; TSAU brings along the cure material for asthma to CHING’s house for SING. CHING is enlightened after talking to TSAU. WAI surrenders to police for buying a fake passport; he is willing to stand out as witness to testify. CHING sees that SING is very much concerned about WAI, who has taken up a lot of pressure; CHING has a decision to make. WAH discovers the jade bangle that she gave to PO is still in WAN’s room; WAN confesses to her that they are pretending to have dates. At this time, PO calls; WAH tells WAN to get hold of the chance. While trying to confess his love with the help and encouragement of alcohol, WAN goes to see PO.… ...

The asthma on SING recurs once again, while WAI accompanies him the whole night; SING asks WAI to be his new father. WAI and MAN prepare their wedding. TSAU advises SIU to confess her love to CHING; SIU and TIM instead advise TSAU to find a new companion. TSAU confesses his love to WAH, but fails. TSAU tells WAN that he decides to go courting WAH, at the same time, he encourages WAN to confess his love to PO. WAN confesses his love to PO in public and kisses her. Knowing that TSAU is the mastermind behind the scene, PO gives TSAU a slap on the face in anger. CHIU and PO go to an hourly hotel for collecting evidence for an adultery case by taking photos on behalf of their client, where CHIU is shocked to see one of the parties is his good friend, Betty. Betty asks CHIU to return the photos, to which Super refuses, saying that it is against his professional code of practice.… ...

CHING forces SING back home, where SIU acts as a mediator to alleviate the tension of the father-and-son, to whish CHING appreciates. For taking care of SING, SIU resigns from her job; TSAU scolds her for her doing so. SING is strange to see that SIU is not angry; SIU by this chance dissolves SING’s hatred on CHING, making the father-and-son friends again. SHING suddenly turns up in the detective office, asking for CHING and SIU’s help. Actually, HIM loses his memory in an accident. HIM only recognizes SIU, saying that he has bought a ring for her as a gift for marriage; SIU is puzzled. In the studio where HIM sees some donuts, he has a flash in mind to remember that he and his beloved girlfriend have been eating donuts in a high class restaurant. CHING knows that SIU has secretly kept a photo that shows the images of CHING and SIU in it; CHING suddenly knows that SIU loves him.… ...

SHING announces that he will retire soon and that he will choose one of his three children to be the successor to take over his business in KEI’s Group; the eldest son, TAI CHI, and the daughter, LAM LAM, are discontent. SHING requests CHING to investigate who is the person, among his three children, has taken away 60 million dollars from the company. CHING sends CHIU, PO and YAN enter the KEI’s Group for investigation. CHING proposes a marriage to SIU successfully. HIM dates SIU, while SIU tells him not to disclose their relationship. SIU also speaks out 12 numerals, reminding him of the love commitment in those old days; HIM is puzzled. CHIU and PO follow LAM into a house, where they take photos of LAM when she takes LSD (kind of hallucinogen). A fire suddenly breaks out in the house; CHIU is afraid that he will lose PO in the same way as he lost Fanny in a fire; CHIU rushes into the house to save PO.… ...

As SIU has changed into another person after CHING cancelled their marriage, CHIU thinks that SIU may be the person who has handed over his pictures to the magazine publishers. However, CHING does not believe what CHIU says. WAN escorts the drunken CHIU to PO’s house; PO knows that WAN gives up his love on her; she feels helpless. After getting Shang’s trust, CHI returns SIU to JEE. The business of CHING drops drastically; SIU feels guilty and she voluntarily proposes her marriage; CHING is overjoyed.
