Match of the Day 2: Season 11 - 31 Episode s
11x1 - MOTD2 - 17th August 2014
August 17, 2014
Mark Chapman introduces highlights from the day's two Premier League matches. Champions Manchester City begin the defence of their title away at Newcastle. City beat the Magpies at home and away last season, and also got the better of them in the League Cup, so will be expecting to get the 2014-15 campaign off to a winning start. Liverpool, who just missed out on the title last season, begin life without talismanic but controversial striker Luis Suarez, hosting Southampton at Anfield.
11x2 - MOTD2 - 24th August 2014
August 24, 2014
Mark Chapman introduces highlights of the day's three Premier League games, which see Tottenham host Queens Park Rangers, Hull City face Stoke City and Sunderland take on Manchester United. Tottenham's game against QPR sees Rangers boss Harry Redknapp return to White Hart Lane for the first time since being sacked by Spurs in 2012. Tottenham have struggled to replace Redknapp, with successors Andre Villas-Boas and Tim Sherwood also eventually deemed surplus to requirements. Sherwood's departure in May saw Mauricio Pochettino appointed Spurs' current boss and this will be the Argentine's first competitive home match at White Hart Lane. Another recent managerial appointment, Manchester United's Louis van Gaal, takes his side to the Stadium of Light to face Sunderland. The Dutchman guided his native country to a third-place finish at the 2014 World Cup before taking over the Red Devils, who ended a disappointing seventh in last season's Premier League.
11x3 - MOTD2 - 31st August 2014
August 31, 2014
Mark Chapman introduces highlights of the day's two Premier League games, in which Tottenham host Liverpool and Leicester host Arsenal. This corresponding fixture last season saw Liverpool win 5-0 at White Hart Lane, a result which saw then-Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas sacked. However, two of the Reds' five goals were scored by Luis Suarez, and this season they will have to cope without the Uruguayan livewire, who was allowed to join Barcelona in the summer. The day's second kick-off sees newly promoted Leicester host Arsenal. The Foxes comfortably won last season's Championship, finishing nine points clear of their nearest rivals, but face a step up in class against the Gunners. Arsene Wenger's side ended their nine-year wait for silverware by winning the FA Cup last season, but the recruitment of former Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez, who starred for Chile at the World Cup, has left Gunners fans dreaming of a first league title since 2004.
11x4 - MOTD2 - 14th September 2014
September 14, 2014
Mark Chapman introduces highlights of the match between Manchester United and Queens Park Rangers. The last time QPR played at Old Trafford, Harry Redknapp watched from the stands before officially taking over as manager of the club. He was powerless to stop them being relegated to the Championship, but they are now back in the Premier League and are hoping to end a miserable run of results against the Red Devils. They have failed to register a victory over Manchester United in the Premier League and last beat them back in 1992, when they won 4-1 at Old Trafford. This match is also notable for Rio Ferdinand's return to Old Trafford. The defender made 454 appearances in a 12-year stay at Man Utd in which he won six league titles, two League Cups, one Champions League and a Club World Cup before joining QPR in the summer. Mark and guests also look back at the goals from Saturday's matches.
11x5 - MOTD2 - 21st September 2014
September 21, 2014
Mark Chapman introduces highlights of the day's three matches, headlined by Manchester City's meeting with Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium. The two heavyweights are expected to be fighting it out for the title come the end of the season. City may have won the league last campaign but they were beaten both home and away to Chelsea. Leicester City welcome Manchester United to the King Power Stadium, still looking for a first home win against them since they moved to the ground in 2002. The Foxes' last home victory over United was a 3-0 triumph in 1985. Everton take on Crystal Palace in the day's other game. The Eagles proved a tough nut to crack for Roberto Martinez's side last season, taking four points off them. Mark and guests also look back at the goals from Saturday's matches.

September 28, 2014
Mark Chapman introduces highlights of the day's Premier League meeting between West Brom and Burnley, plus a look back at all the action from Saturday's matches. The Premier League has never featured a meeting between these sides - newly promoted Burnley hope the first clash ends with a Clarets victory. The Baggies are equally keen to secure the spoils having spent last season at the wrong end of the Premier League table, only narrowly avoiding relegation. There is also a look back at a busy day in the Premier League on Saturday, which featured a derby double with Liverpool taking on Everton and Arsenal facing north London neighbours Tottenham.
11x7 - MOTD2 - 5th October 2014
October 5, 2014
Mark Chapman introduces highlights of the day's four Premier League fixtures, and also looks back at all the action from Saturday's matches. Arsenal visit Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea six months after suffering a humiliating 6-0 defeat there in Arsene Wenger's 1,000th match in charge last March. Manchester United will also be looking for atonement against Everton after the Toffees did the double over them last season for the first time since 1969. Harry Redknapp takes his promoted QPR side across London to face West Ham, the club he both played for and managed. The day's other game sees Tottenham host Southampton. Spurs did the double over Saints last season, winning 3-2 on both occasions. Philip Neville, Trevor Sinclair and Martin Keown are on hand with expert analysis.
11x8 - MOTD2 - 19th October 2014

11x9 - MOTD2 - 26th October 2014
October 26, 2014
Mark Chapman introduces highlights from the Premier League. All eyes are on Old Trafford as Manchester United face a huge match against Chelsea. Louis van Gaal's expensively assembled squad could not have had more of a contrasting start to the season to that enjoyed by Jose Mourinho's Chelsea. The Red Devils will be looking to shrug off what has been a terrible opening to the season by their exalted standards, but their struggling defence will have their work cut out containing a Blues team who have been scoring goals for fun. Elsewhere, struggling Burnley welcome Everton to Turf Moor to get points on the board, while Newcastle travel to play Tottenham. There is also a look back at Saturday's Premier League action, featuring Manchester City against West Ham and Sunderland against Arsenal.
11x10 - MOTD2 - 2nd November 2014
November 2, 2014
Mark Chapman introduces highlights from two Premier League games, including Manchester City v Manchester United, United manager Louis van Gaal's first Manchester derby. The Dutchman has recruited star names such as Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao with the aim of re-establishing United as a Premier League force. However, the side's defensive balance has come under the spotlight, and they face a real test against reigning champions Manchester City, who scored 102 league goals in the 2013/14 season, including four in an emphatic win against United at the Etihad Stadium. The day's second game sees Aston Villa entertain Tottenham Hotspur. This fixture has been one-sided in recent years - Spurs have won their last five games against Villa in all competitions, scoring 15 unanswered goals. However, Villa's solid start to the campaign will boost their hopes of ending that miserable run. There is also a look back at the goals from Saturday's matches.
11x11 - MOTD2 - 9th November 2014
November 9, 2014

The day's other two games saw Sunderland host Everton while Newcastle made the trip down to the Hawthorns to meet West Brom.

Mark Chapman presents highlights from the day's Premier League fixtures. Liverpool take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, a fixture which proved crucial in last season's Premier League title race. Liverpool squandered a three-goal lead in the final 11 minutes last May as the match ended 3-3, leaving Brendan Rodgers' team just one point ahead of title rivals Manchester City, who went on to claim the crown by two points. The day's other game sees Hull host Tottenham. Spurs are unbeaten in their three previous visits to the KC Stadium and they have only lost once to the Tigers in the Premier League. In this fixture last season, Hull ended a run of four consecutive league defeats by earning a 1-1 draw.

Despite a summer of upheaval Saints enjoyed a record-breaking start to this season and are hopeful of extending their three-match unbeaten run against City on home turf. While Saints celebrated an impressive start to the campaign, Tottenham and Everton struggled to get going and are both desperate for three points at White Hart Lane in the day's other match. Saturday's busy Premier League programme - featuring eight games in total - is also reviewed and analysed.

West Ham hope to continue their winning record against Swansea, having taken the three points in their two previous Premier League meetings at Upton Park. In 2013 the Hammers went into this fixture in the relegation zone, but two goals from Kevin Nolan gave them a crucial victory. Plus Midlands rivals Aston Villa and Leicester meet in the league for the first time in over ten years, and both teams are desperate to take the bragging rights.
11x15 - MOTD2 - 14th December 2014
December 14, 2014
Mark Chapman presents highlights of today's two Premier League matches, including Manchester United against Liverpool, and a look back at all of Saturday's action. Liverpool completed a first league double over their great rivals in five years last season, Steven Gerrard scoring two penalties in their 3-0 win at Old Trafford in March. United had won eight of the previous nine home league games against the Reds. Which way will the pendulum swing in their first meeting of the 2014-15 campaign? Tottenham travelled to Swansea in the day's other game, a fixture Spurs have historically enjoyed in Premier League past. The north London club have won five of the previous six meetings, only dropping points in their first meeting back in December 2011.
11x16 - MOTD2 - 21st December 2014
December 21, 2014

The Tyne-Wear derby is one of the most fiercely contested rivalries in English football. The Black Cats are chasing a fourth consecutive victory in this fixture, and have won 3-0 on each of their last two trips to St James' Park. The day's second game sees Arsenal head to Anfield to play Liverpool. The Gunners suffered a 5-1 thrashing the last time they met the Reds on Merseyside. January 18, 2015

Last season City produced a devastating performance to win this fixture 6-3 against a Gunners side who were sitting at the top of the league. In the day's other game, West Ham are aiming to preserve their record of five successive home victories over Hull, which dates back nearly 25 years to 1990. There's also a chance to see all the goals and major incidents from Saturday's seven matches.

Villa have often frustrated the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium, winning on three of their last six league visits, including a 3-1 victory on the opening day of the 2013-14 season. Southampton play host to Swansea in the day's other game, a fixture the Saints have historically enjoyed in the recent past. The south coast club are unbeaten in their five previous Premier League meetings, winning each of the last three.
11x20 - MOTD2 - 8th February 2015
February 8, 2015
Mark Chapman presents coverage of the day's three Premier League matches. Burnley welcome West Brom to Turf Moor in a crucial battle towards the foot of the table. When the two sides met earlier in the season, the Baggies inflicted a heavy 4-0 defeat on the newly promoted Clarets, but since then Sean Dyche's side have found their feet in the Premier League and are now a different proposition. Stoke face a tricky trip to play Newcastle. The Potters have come away with three points on just one of their five Premier League visits to St James' Park, but they have won the last two games at home against the Magpies by the same scoreline: 1-0. West Ham host Manchester United in the last fixture of the day. The Red Devils have taken 34 points from their last 12 Premier League games against the Hammers and last lost in this fixture back in 2007. Last season, Manchester United won 2-1 courtesy of a wonder goal from current skipper Wayne Rooney.
11x21 - MOTD2 - 22nd February 2015

The latter match sees former Saints players Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Dejan Lovren return to St Mary's for the first time since joining the Reds last year. Southampton have coped well without the trio, launching an unexpected challenge for European qualification. It has been an up-and-down campaign for Liverpool, who have struggled to replace Barcelona-bound Luis Suarez, although there have been more encouraging signs of late. The Reds' Merseyside rivals Everton host Leicester City at Goodison Park, eager to make up lost ground following inconsistent league form. And there's a London derby at White Hart Lane, where Tottenham take on West Ham.
11x22 - MOTD2 - 1st March 2015
March 1, 2015
Mark Chapman presents highlights of the day's two Premier League games, which includes defending champions Manchester City's trip to Liverpool. In this fixture last season, the two title rivals produced a thrilling contest which was settled by Philippe Coutinho's late goal, earning Liverpool a 3-2 victory at Anfield after City had fought back from 2-0 down. That win put Brendan Rodgers' side in the driving seat in the race for the Premier League title with four games to go, although City ultimately emerged victorious. The day's other game sees Arsenal host Everton at the Emirates Stadium as the Gunners look to keep their fight for a top-four place on course. Everton have struggled this season and will be hoping to finish the campaign with a flourish.
11x23 - MOTD2 - 15th March 2015
March 15, 2015
Mark Chapman presents highlights of the day's two Premier League games, including title contenders Chelsea's home clash with high-flying Southampton. When the teams met at St Mary's in December, Southampton took a first-half lead through Sadio Mane but Eden Hazard's brilliant equaliser earned Chelsea a point. Saints also led when they travelled to Stamford Bridge last season, but Chelsea fought back to win 3-1 and the Blues haven't lost at home to Southampton since 2002. Manchester United host Tottenham, who are aiming for a third consecutive victory at Old Trafford. Last season, goals from Emmanuel Adebayor and Christian Eriksen earned Tim Sherwood's Spurs side a 2-1 win. Elsewhere, Newcastle travel to Everton and Tony Pulis sees his new side West Brom host his former club Stoke at the Hawthorns.

March 22, 2015
Mark Chapman introduces highlights of the day's three Premier League fixtures, in which Liverpool and Manchester United renew their rivalry at Anfield, while long-time leaders Chelsea head to Hull and relegation-threatened QPR host Everton. Hull had only beaten Chelsea once in 90 years prior to this fixture, and never in the Premier League. Chelsea were 2-0 winners in the reverse fixture, which was marred by two Chelsea players being booked for diving and Gary Cahill lucky not to be sent off for a second yellow card after taking a tumble to try and win a penalty. At Anfield, the two most successful clubs in the English game faced each other in a game that had ramifications for their pursuit of Champions League qualification. The previous two meetings, both at Old Trafford, ended 3-0, with Manchester United avenging last season's home defeat with a comprehensive victory in December.

In the day's other match, Sunderland host Newcastle in the Tyne-Wear derby. The Black Cats boast a brilliant recent record against their bitter rivals, having won the last four league matches between the sides for the first time in the 116-year history of the fixture. There's also a chance to see all the goals and major incidents from Saturday's seven matches.

April 12, 2015
Gabby Logan presents highlights of Sunday's two Premier League derbies, in which Manchester United host Manchester City and Queens Park Rangers take on Chelsea. Manchester United have historically held the edge over their crosstown rivals, but in recent years City have emerged as genuine Premier League heavyweights, claiming title wins in 2011-12 and 2013-14. They have won their last four games against the Red Devils, and have claimed three successive wins at Old Trafford, including an emphatic 3-0 victory last season and a remarkable 6-1 win in 2011. The day's other game sees title hopefuls Chelsea make the short trip across west London to face relegation-threatened Queens Park Rangers. The Blues won 2-1 when the sides met at Stamford Bridge earlier this season but have failed to score in their last two Premier League games at Loftus Road. There's also a chance to see all the goals and major incidents from Saturday's seven matches.

11x30 - MOTD2 - 10th May 2015
May 10, 2015
Mark Chapman presents highlights of the day's two Premier League fixtures. Chelsea have set the Premier League pace for much of the season, and in this programme they face a Liverpool side that narrowly missed out on the title 12 months ago. Victory for the Blues at Stamford Bridge against the Merseysiders would see Jose Mourinho's side complete a second straight league double over them. The day's other game sees champions Manchester City host struggling QPR. The clubs drew 2-2 at Loftus Road earlier this season - Sergio Aguero scored both of City's goals after they had twice trailed. The Swans have enjoyed a good first full season under manager Garry Monk and will want to end it strongly against Manuel Pellegrini's City side, whose form has tailed off badly after Christmas. It took Manchester United a while to adapt to new manager Louis van Gaal's methods, but since Christmas they have enjoyed an excellent run of form. Arsenal are the day's visitors to Old Trafford, a ground at which they beat the Red Devils in the FA Cup in March thanks to a goal from former United striker Danny Welbeck. There is also a chance to see all the goals from Saturday's top-flight games.
