Freedom – lost, then regained. Truth – hidden, then unveiled?
Five years ago, Hong Kong citizen YAN TING (SO YUK WAH, LOUISA) was wrongly found guilty of murdering her husband LAU KAI CHUNG (WAN SIU LUN, DERIC) in Taiwan. TING is released and returns to Hong Kong. She still believes in justice and has faith in regaining what has been stripped from her. She is shocked when she meets a man BEN YUEN (also played by WAN SIU LUN, DERIC) who looks exactly like CHUNG. However, CHUNG was certified dead in Taiwan. TING is completely bewildered at BEN’s existence. The truth is slowly revealed. TING decides to strike back. BEN sets TING up for jail again. Fortunately, she meets a warm-hearted lawyer LEO LAW (LAM, BOWIE). LEO works hard on her case. His effort seems to have paid off when he digs further into the truth...

Given the pardon by Taiwan authority, YAN TING comes out of prison and returns to Hong Kong with the ash of her late husband, LAU KAI CHUNG. The barrister, LEO LAW, follows the will of his late father, inherits his law firm and changes his job to run the lawyer business. A worker, LAM YUK HA, is dismissed without reason after she gets injured in an industrial accident. LEO demands compensation from the employer for her and goes to the working place to investigate. TSEUNG HOK NIN, a wealthy merchant and a family friend of LEO, is shocked and angry because his only daughter, NGA YEE, informs him that she will marry in the USA, and LEO calms him down. Because TING has earlier cheated her family’s property, making her mother and brother suffer, she has to stay in the home of her good friend, KAM KWAI MUI……

TING is working as salesperson in the street, where she sees a man who looks very much alike her later husband, CHUNG. LEO goes with NIN for diving when YEE and her newly wedded husband, Ben YUEN, appear. NIN presumes that Ben is a person with evil intention and speaks to him in stern manner. Susan, the wife of LEO, tries to defend TING but to make her lose the job while TING is sexually molested. LEO hires TING on the request of Susan. Knowing that TING and HA have grudges difficult to be solved, LEO encourages TING to use her sincerity to move her family. For many times in the pursuit of BEN in the street who looks like CHUNG, TING not only forgets the job in her hands, but she makes LEO get injured as a result. Discovering that TING loses her soul for her late husband, LEO suggests that she needs to see a psychiatrist. Ben works wholeheartedly on the job that is arranged for him, but he cannot win the heart of NIN……

To keep the party undisturbed, LEO forcibly takes TING home; LEO comes to know what TING has experienced in Taiwan from MUI. Susan feels uneasy to know that Raymond, her former boy friend, will join the lawyer firm of LEO’s. To make TING face the reality, MUI uses every possible means to test and identify the identity of Ben, but fails. LEO orders TING to stop disturbing Ben, to which TING obeys to keep her bread and butter. LEO invites Raymond home for meal; Susan is out of her mind and scalds RAYMOND, yet LEO does not take it seriously. The wharf development project by NIN is delayed and LEO points out that NIN will hold the responsibility for compensation, to which NIN feels frustrated. Raymond discloses the information that MIU’s Shipping that belongs to MIU HOI, the father-in-law of NIN, is in crisis. LEO points out that Raymond is doing something against the professional code of practice……

TING tears up the trousers of Ben and finally proves that Ben is not CHUNG. TING is dismissed; before she leaves the lawyer firm, she does not forget to remind LEO that a client HO PING is wandering nearby. By using tricks, NIN wants to buy MIU’s Shipping at a low price. Ben is suspicious about the lowering share price of MIU’s. PING vents out his anger and hits LEO fiercely because LEO has made application for divorce on behalf of his wife. TING gets injured in the rescue of LEO, who decides to re-employ TING and suggests that he will reverse the former judgment on TING. TING tactfully refuses. After visiting HA, TING comes to know why HA could not come to Taiwan and help look after her son. NIN appreciates the project done by YEE, but later when he knows that it was Ben who made the project, he blames Ben for abusing his authority……

The garage of MING opens for business while TING and MUI come to congratulate. To avoid conflict with the pregnant KUEN, the wife of MING, both TING and MUI swallow their grudges and keep silent. YIU, the godson of MUI, commits the offence of “criminal damage” for revenge against his former girl friend, Helen. To come forward for YIU, MUI requests TING to impersonate a lawyer and thus TING breaks the law. Advising TING to admit the offence with negative result, LEO only has to settle the lawsuit of YIU first. YING gets a fever that does not subside for a long time and YING has to admit in hospital for medical check-up. HOI does not want to borrow money to solve the MIU’s Shipping crisis. He prefers to let NIN buy MIU’s, to which NIN has got what he wants. Ben discovers that NIN has adopted his Logistics City project, but does not let him take part in it, to which Ben feels unwilling……

LEO is shocked to know that YING is not his biological daughter and TING advises him to go back home to have a detailed talk with Susan. The garage of MING receives a lawyer’s warning letter and it is feared that the business is difficult to go on while TING and LEO go for a site visit for the surroundings. Because Susan worries that the true background of YING may be disclosed, she is absent minded to commit the offence of shoplifting. LEO gets the enlightenment from a volunteer worker that he will no longer be obsessed with the true background of YING. Ben tells YEE that the crisis of MIU’s is the work of NIN. Then SUET angrily discloses NIN’s evildoing to HOI, who is provoked and have a heart attack. SUET proposes a divorce with NIN. Unintentionally, TING makes HA know the difficult position of the garage of MING, who rebukes her for making the mother feeling excited……

KUEN leaves home after a quarrel with MING. TING locates KUEN at the seafront where KUEN loses balance and falls into the sea. Luckily, TING rescues KUEN regardless of her own safety. Through this incident, the relationship of the family members turns better from worse. With evidence, LEO challenges Mrs. TAM, who has filed a lawsuit against the garage of MING and eventually MING wins the case and the garage can continue to operate. Raymond returns to Hong Kong after a business trip and LEO avoids seeing him by offering help to TING for her removal. Raymond and his mother, LAM SAU PING, go and visit HEUNG. PING was originally a family servant of LAW’s and she feels grateful to the LAW’s assistance in preparing Raymond’ career, to which Raymond thinks otherwise. Susan is caught for shop lifting when Raymond comes to rescue, but Susan does not feel appreciated……

Ben returns to his working place and tries to avoid his two “wives” from meeting each other. He also tells WAN SHUK HAN, his wife just coming back from the USA, that TING has come out of prison and is now in Hong Kong, to which HAN is surprised. Actually, Ben is CHUNG; HAN is a good friend of TING, but she had a love affair with CHUNG. Out of greed, CHUNG killed his twin brother, Ben, and fabricated the murder case on TING; after TING went to jail, HAN helped take care of their son and subsequently went to the USA to live their life with CHUNG, who took over the identity of Ben. When LEO discovers that he cannot discard the obsession that YING is not his biological daughter, TING comes and comforts him. After taking part in the birthday party in school, YING feels unwell. The next day, Susan goes and applies for sick leave for YING and she comes to know that other students also show signs of food poisoning……

TING thinks that HAN has got married and started a new life with LOK in the USA. She then expresses to HAN that she hopes she can visit LOK occasionally. LEO finds out that the illness on YING is not related to food poisoning and it is difficult to sue the restaurant that supplies the food. He is frustrated and also fears that her genotype allergy will be disclosed. To relieve the inner pressure, Susan commits shoplifting offence and is caught red handed. HEUNG insists on taking legal action against the restaurant while LEO feels helpless but to conceal the medical history of YING. TING cannot stop to believe that LEO will do something that is against the rule of practice, but LEO states that the case may be settled outside court. Ben intends to make a holiday trip with HAN and LOK to cerebrate the Father’s Day. However, he has to drop the plan because he needs to accompany YEE, SUET and HOI for diving……

Ben’s anger to HAN scares LOK. After calming down, Ben apologizes to HAN. Ben sends HAN and LOK back to the USA. On the plane, HAN is shocked when comes to know the relationship between Ben and YEE from a magazine. TING feels sad and lost on hearing that LOK and HAN return to the USA. To vent out the anger for HOI, SUET tries to sell part of her share in the company to another shareholder, to which NIN angers. TUNG comes and settles the food poisoning case on behalf of the restaurant while LEO discovers that TUNG has not made good preparation and he gives a little suggestion. NIN entrusts HEUNG and LEO to pay HOI a visit, hoping that SUET will change her mind. It is a pity that HOI loses all his will and interest. LEO and Ben go and find the first yacht of HOI separately. LEO is shocked to know that he is not informed of Susan’s shop lifting case and vents out his anger on Raymond in a ball game……

HAN returns to Hong Kong and tries to disclose Ben’s bigamy to YEE but changes her mind after meeting TING. Ben reproaches HAN for neglecting to care for his son and making him food poisoned. Later when he knows that HAN has already known his relationship with YEE, he lies that all he does is for the better life of her, his son and his future, and all he does to YEE is just a show. HAN feels guilty to TING and leaves a text message to apologize while TING treasures very much about the message left behind by LOK. Feeling abnormal about the rude manner of LEO, Raymond enquires from LEO but with negative result. To avoid letting CHENG KA MAN, his girl friend, to know Susan has an addiction to shoplifting, Raymond does not allow her to follow the case, to which MAN mistakes something otherwise. Raymond tries to call YING as witness in court to defend Susan, who feels uneasy……

Ben coaxes LOK back to the USA to study in a boarding school and has a near encounter with TING in the airport; TING faintly hears the voice of her son, which makes her missing him more. TING arranges to meet YEE and they go to the restaurant that is involved in the case of food poisoning. With the help of YEE, the boss of the restaurant agrees to settle the case. Raymond leads YING to give evidence in court while YING feels guilty and cries bitterly. Susan accuses Raymond for using his own daughter, to which Raymond feels amazed. Susan runs away from home. Finally, LEO cannot hold any longer and tells HEUNG the background of YING. When Raymond comes and tells LEO the fact that the Legal Department has given up suing Susan, he knows that Susan has left home. Raymond denotes that he will resign after finishing all the jobs in hands, to which LEO agrees. Susan accepts TING’s advice and returns home……

LEO takes up the case to defend TING for her drug offence. He asks TING to recall the occurrence before and after the incident, but cannot find anything unusual. Raymond wants Susan to come back to his arm and decides to separate MAN. PING is shocked and upset to know that YING is the daughter of Raymond. To avoid the entanglement of Raymond, Susan suggests that they should have a trip outside with the whole family. LEO bails TING out and he takes her to hospital to visit HA. TING feels comfort when HA trusts her. Before the court opens, TING has an argument with the judge and she worries that the judge may have a bad impression on her. TING does not want to be jailed again because she has not committed the offence. She unexpectedly borrows money from Ben. It is lucky that HA has discovered something wrong with her and tells LEO what she behaves. LEO suspects Ben’s motive behind the lending money to TING……

When Ben thinks that his evildoing is disclosed and tries to run away from Hong Kong with money, YEE tells him that she is pregnant and NIN also accepts the marriage because of this, to which Ben feels relieved. Susan has secret contact with Raymond, but she does not want to divorce because she does not want to disappoint LEO for what he has done for the family. Using the photo with HAN and LOK in it, TING follows this route and tries to track down LOK. TING pays back the money to Ben, who tests TING to see if she has found any evidence to prove she is not guilty. Raymond forces Susan to divorce LEO, but Susan wants to have a trip to cool down. Out of expectation, Raymond and LEO want to accompany separately, and it makes all parties unhappy. Susan decides to leave LEO. LEO receives a letter from the Law Society demanding explanation of his destroying the medical report of YING, and YING is also taken away by Susan……

LEO decides to fight the custodial right of YING and takes her home unwilling. However, he discovers that YING is happy to follow the lifestyle of Raymond; LEO angrily hits YING while HEUNG and TING cannot help. TING uses trick to keep LEO away and let HEUNG take away YING. LEO finds out and tries to stop them leaving. It is a pity that the determination to leave shown by YING makes his heart ache. Raymond gives false evidence to prove LEO’s guilt, to which LEO is excited. LEO gets his lawyer license suspended. NIN tries to invite LEO to join his company so as to control the influence of Raymond and Ben. However, LEO has lost all his interest. Because of the information that LEO has collected, TUNG defends the drug offence of TING with the evidence and she is found not guilty afterwards. TING cannot stand seeing LEO give up the conviction of law and she tries to encourage him……

TING uses tricks to obtain the evidence that can prove the identity of Ben, who discovers and chases her. Both of them struggle on a rooftop. Before falling off, Ben admits his identity to TING and he is rescued. Later, Ben points out that TING has got mania because of her memory of her late husband. TING tries to finds other evidence to disclose Ben, but she is stopped by her family members, saying that Ben is a dangerous person. NIN wants to postpone the wedding day of Ben and YEE, who makes a difficult position for him by using the press. LEO sues Susan for “cheating his sentiment” and hopes that it can be made as a case sample, but it is refused. LEO finds out that TING decides to let Ben go, and he takes TING to see NIN. LEO infers that Ben has used the identity of his twin brother while TING feels the chill on her spine and accepts the support of NIN……

LEO bribes to obtain the information of Ben. TING denotes that she does not want to reverse the case, only hoping that the evidence is used to win back LOK. LEO is dissatisfied with the way Raymond teaches YING and decides to take up the job as legal advisor in TIN KWAN so as to take back the custodial right of YING and to take chance to obtain the fingerprints of Ben for analysis. The result is disappointing. Later LEO discovers that Raymond has been to Vietnam and he suddenly realizes something. LEO learns that Susan has an addiction to stealing things and blames her for putting all the responsibility on YING. YING is very much hurt when hearing their argument. Susan questions her own ability of teaching her daughter while Raymond calms her down. When driving his car, MING meets Ben on the street. Ming wants to vent out the anger to Ben for TING, but almost makes KUEN abortive of her pregnancy……

Ben pushes MING off the slope and makes him unconscious. Not to affect the unborn baby, TING and HA hide the fact from KUEN of MING’s situation. For keeping his lawyer license, Raymond gives up the custodial right of YING. Susan asks LEO to return the photos that were taken secretly on Raymond, to which LEO feels disgusted. Ben uses tricks to make the money short in TIN KWAN and he plans with another shareholder, SHARK CHOW, to buy TIN KWAN. At last, KUEN discovers MING is in a coma and she is excited. LEO knows the plot of Ben and he uses tricks to make CHOW to abandon the buying plan. NIN accuses Ben to get benefits both from inside and outside and allows him only to accompany YEE for her giving birth, to which Ben angers. TING feels uneasy when she is told from YIU that LEO has used dirty tricks on CHOW……

TING questions NIN why he destroys the evidence, to which NIN expresses that YEE has just been diagnosed to have cancer and he cannot help but to let Ben go. NIN is also willing to pay some money as compensation, to which TING despises. NIN orders Ben to convince YEE to stop the pregnancy and to continue the chemotherapy, but with negative result. To put LEO in the dark, HEUNG let Susan, Raymond, PING and YING cerebrate the birthday. LEO presumes that Raymond wants to take back YING and he makes a report that Raymond has committed an offence of “obstructing the course of justice”. KUEN uses the money from Ben to hire good doctor to cure MING, who subsequently regains his consciousness. KUEN and HA are overjoyed while TING is feeling unsettled. Brother KIN, the husband of MUI, is released from prison and MUI holds a cerebration for him in a bar……

At the last moment, TING changes her mind and lets Ben go. SUET is surprised to find the information relates to LOK in a safe. She later knows that Ben has sacked the employee who has work in TIN KWAN for many years; Ben refuses to sign to let YEE terminate her pregnancy when her sickness gets worse; Ben shouts at the crucifix. SUET becomes suspicious and she hands over the information of LOK to LEO. Ben receives the message that LOK has cancer, and he together with TING fly to the USA. It is a pity that the bone marrow of TING does not fit that of LOK. Ben loses his temper but he is not willing to have a blood test. Feeling painful, TING swallows corrosive chemicals to commit suicide, and only at that point when Ben is willing to have blood test. When LOK wakes up, Ben knows that he is trapped. For escape, Ben uses the life of his son as threat. Can Ben escape? LEO sends YING to a boarding school abroad, to which YING is disgusted……
