1x1 - Episode 1

August 2, 1999

During the investigation of the case of an offshore future index, PO, a detective in the Organized Crime Bureau, saved the life of his friend KIT, who worked for a security guard company. PO asked KIT’s sister FONG to purchase birds’ nest for him, but led their two fathers to remind their right and wrong of the old days. The meeting ended unpleasantly. In a bar, PO happened to meet a drug addict, KEUNG, who only just came out of the prison. He remembered that KEUNG had killed his beloved wife WAI. Therefore, PO could not resist beating up KEUNG who later was hospitalized. PO could be summoned by the Internal Affairs department. Tycoon NAM was very disappointed that his only son JOE was not mature enough to handle his business. JOE also lost his confidence because his father constantly scolded him. One day, JOE was kidnapped. The kidnapper KUEN demanded a ransom of one billion dollars……

1x2 - Episode 2

August 3, 1999

Fortunately, PO was able to take off the pager’s battery from the bomb. When they were running out, PO was grazed by bullet and JOE was so scared he fainted. NAM was grateful to PO and impressed by PO. KUEN and YUNG decided to run away. PO and SAN rushed to the pier but failed to stop them. SAN was hurt. PO met KEUNG again in police station. With an excuse of taking his statement, PO took revenge on KEUNG. PO was forced to resign. JOE always had nightmare after the kidnap. NAM was sad about JOE’s incapability. JOE told his sister NING that even their housekeeper ON loved him more than NAM. PO was dunned for debt by the bank. KIT introduced him to work in a security guard company. KIT’s ex-wife YAN was getting along with a playboy SIMON. KIT reminded her to be careful. YAN neglected.

1x3 - Episode 3

August 4, 1999

YAN gave KIT half of the money from the sale of their flat. KIT understood that there’s no hope of being together again with YAN so he lent PO the money for setting up his business. However, PO was very unlucky and failed in his business. YUK owned debt and was chased by loan sharks. She escaped and met PO. She crooked him of knocking on her and asked money for medicine. PO did not know whether to laugh or to cry. NAM decided to employ security guards. PO recommended him to consider KIT’s company. NAM accepted with a condition that PO had to be responsible for the security work. PO therefore joined KIT’s company. Putting on his suit, PO was reminded of his wife dying in his arms on their anniversary day. He grieved deeply. PO felt uneasy after recognizing that he had to protect JOE. JOE tricked him to go search for his medicines that had been thrown off the hill by JOE……

1x4 - Episode 4

August 5, 1999

NAM blamed JOE of not putting enough effort at the hotel, which caused business to drop. Thus, JOE decide to give the hotel a new image. NING was grasped and blackmailed by her boyfriend RAY. Luckily, KIT stopped it and NING changed her impression on KIT. JOE presented his proposal to NAM but was immediately turned off by NAM who commented it as total nonsense. JOE was very devastated. KIT met YAN in a ball and was teased by YAN's boyfriend SIMON. NING protested him. FONG was amazed when she knew that her father KIN was competing with PO’s father DAT for the chairman position of the owner’s association. YUK borrowed money from FONG to repay the debt. However, FONG had only two hundred dollars and was hurt by the debt collector. PO rushed to the emergency room. FONG was impressed with his concern on herself.

1x5 - Episode 5

August 6, 1999

KIN deceived FONG by asking her to go see a fortune-teller but had introduced her a boyfriend instead. It was seen by PO, which made her very embarrassed. In addition, KIN disclosed that she liked PO. JOE submitted his revised proposal. NAM was contented this time but he knew NING had helped him. NAM asked JOE to bring YAU YEUK LAM, who came from Shanghai, to wander around. Disliking it, JOE planned the itinerary casually. It was overheard by NING which started the mutual dislike. NING’s ex-boyfriend TONY had got divorced, and requested NING to make up. NING reproved him of being so selfish and never considered her feeling. KIT was touched with what she said. PO realized from his ex-colleagues that WAI's death was related to LEE WING TAT. She was put to death because she might have known some secrets. Hearing this, PO was very sad.

1x6 - Episode 6

August 9, 1999

In order to find out TAT’s whereabouts, PO approached YUK by repaying all her debts and finding her a new flat. FONG took sick leave and helped PO; however it was discovered by her employer and FONG was dismissed. At the same time, KIT needed a female security guard to protect LAM. FONG accepted, as she wanted to get near PO. JOE suddenly changed his mind to play tennis. KIT immediately assigned his people to check the country club. NING admired his work ability very much. JOE challenged LAM for fencing. JOE lost and he commanded PO to fence. PO deliberately let LAM win as the game reminded him of the past when he fenced with WAI. LAM suggested to cut down the hotel’s manpower, which JOE disagreed. However, NAM accepted her idea, JOE was furious.

1x7 - Episode 7

August 10, 1999

JOE was responsible for giving out the dismissal letters. Afterwards, he received ghosts' money from those layoff workers. He was angry and threw them at LAM. PO had installed an appliance to eavesdrop YUK’s conversation. He discovered YUK was very concerned about a guy called HOI GOI. YUK was miserable as she thought PO was dating her. KIN thought FONG had lost her virginity to PO. Concerning FONG's future, KIN tolerated with DAT. DAT then took the chance to make fun of him. JOE heard that PO was dissatisfied with him so he left the office secretly. Unexpectedly, JOE met one of the unemployed workers in the car park, who poured JOE with gasoline and tried to set him on fire. JOE screamed that he was innocent.

1x8 - Episode 8

August 11, 1999

PO arrived and told the worker about his personal grief, which had ceased his anger. JOE changed his impression on PO. NAM condemned JOE of creating too much trouble. LAM explained to NAM that he had given JOE too much pressure. KIN again because of FONG’s happiness, did not compete for the post of chairman. After finding out the truth, he was very mad about being fooled. JOE proposed a promotional plan to NAM, but was rejected. LAM told JOE that he should have confidence and insistence. Finally, NAM agreed on his new plan. JOE was very happy and he understood LAM had been trying to help. FONG worried about PO and LAM getting along too well. NING and KIT were taking a walk on beach, they had special feelings towards each other.

1x9 - Episode 9

August 12, 1999

NING was unable to restrain her emotions and embraced KIT. However, KIT was indifferent. NAM was well satisfied with the improved relationship between JOE and LAM. FONG was afraid there was further development between PO and LAM; therefore, she tried to bring LAM and JOE together. YUK met PO’s mother WAN, she asked her to find a new flat for her. PO was perplexed. He and FONG again installed another eavesdrop appliance into YUK’s telephone. JOE was in love with LAM. FONG took the initiative to teach him how to date LAM. YUK discovered about the eavesdrop appliance and was very angry. She cheated DAT to be her guarantor to borrow thirty thousand dollars and disappeared. PO swore to find her.

1x10 - Episode 10

August 13, 1999

KIN knew YUK had run away, he immediately demanded DAT to repay the debt. PO claimed he would take up the full responsibility. NING purposely got close to ROY so as to provoke KIT. KIT was jealous and spoke out that he dared not to love because of their identity difference. NING was pleased. LAM met her former lover LEE MAN SHUN. She sobbed as she recalled the days they were apart. She told FONG that she could never forget it. JOE’s love was refused by LAM. He was very downcast and got drunk. PO also felt sorry for him. JOE determined to try again, but PO told him to give up because LAM had somebody else in mind. PO finally found YUK. He revealed to YUK that he wanted to make use of her lover YUNG to find KUEN, in order to revenge for WAI. YUK refused.

1x11 - Episode 11

August 16, 1999

YUK received a call and left immediately. PO followed her to a hospital and understood that HOI GOI was her son. YUK feared PO might disclose her poor status, so she promised to help him to look for KUEN. PO suspected KIT and NING were dating but FONG didn’t believe. NAM explained to JOE that they could still be friends though LAM had rejected him. JOE therefore befriended with her again. SHUN was in suspect of illegal drug trafficking. LAM bailed him out and helped him to find a lawyer. SHUN refused. PO knew from GOI that YUK would meet YUNG, he appealed to Sergeant CHEUNG to arrest him. On his way meeting YUK, YUNG was stopped by a car and being taken away. The driver was KIT.

1x12 - Episode 12

August 17, 1999

KIT dissuaded YUNG from seeing YUK, or PO would catch him. YUK realized PO was following her. She quarreled with him and fought. LIN saw it and thought they were in love. PO introduced LIN a job and knew from her that YUK cared for her family very much. He changed his impression towards her. FONG apologized to JOE of being a matchmaker. She invited him for dinner at her neighborly food stall. JOE found the experience very new and interesting. KIT was jealous of the intimate relation between NING and ROY. JOE and FONG met PO and DAT. He admired their close father and son relationship. FONG was dismissed suddenly, PO explained that JOE’s father was dissatisfied with her getting along too well with his son. JOE was angry with that and left home.

1x13 - Episode 13

August 18, 1999

PO investigated that JOE was living in Fu Yat Hotel. He convinced him to go home. However, JOE insisted to be independent. PO scolded him it was not the way of being independent by living in a hotel and eating caviar. JOE thought it over and left. NAM was worried about him. JOE met KIN and DAT in a park. They brought him out for tea and informed PO and FONG. JOE did not want to go home so PO let him stay at his house. YUK wanted to make a match for LIN and JOE so she tried to get acquainted with JOE. GOI had food poisoning and was sent to the hospital. PO looked after him very well, YUK was touched. LIN advised her to treasure him. JOE was eager to get a job. A model agency employed him as model. JOE was very happy and paid the fee. Next day, he found that he was being deceived.

1x14 - Episode 14

August 19, 1999

FONG learned that JOE had interest in design and encouraged him to develop in this field. YUK was very impressed with PO’s attentiveness and his good relation with GOI. With an excuse, she bought him breakfast and cooked him medicine. LAM heard from FONG that JOE wanted to find a design job, she helped him secretly. NAM was unhappy to know JOE was finding a job. However, NING told him that he should support JOE instead. JOE encouraged FONG to reveal her love to PO. However, PO only treated her as his sister. FONG was heart-broken. YUNG requested KIT to arrange meeting with YUK. KIT declined. YUNG waited for YUK at her flat, and was seen and chased by PO. However, PO was brought back to police station due to dangerous driving. Meantime, YUNG also came in for self-denunciation along with his lawyer.

1x15 - Episode 15

August 20, 1999

PO did not understand YUNG’s motive and felt miserable. KIT knew the shares of NPC would rise so he borrowed money for investing. KIN said that YUK was a bad woman. DAT questioned PO and was unfriendly to YUK. YUK was upset and PO blamed DAT of overreacting. YUK visited YUNG in the retention center. She was impressed with his intensive love. JOE looked for FONG in the community center. He sketched FONG when she was playing Kung Fu. Moreover, JOE was able to get some idea for his advertisement. His client accepted his proposal, JOE requested FONG to be the model of his advertisement. KIT was furious with the rumor of NING and ROY. NING was determined to separate with him. YUNG was released and met KUEN. BROTHER TUNG asked KUEN to join in the kidnap of a merchant. However, they could not compromise on the share of the ransom. KUEN killed TUNG.

1x16 - Episode 16

August 23, 1999

PO suspected KUEN was related to the death of TUNG. KIT dissuaded him from investigation. YUNG came to YUK’s house and told her that he would bring her to overseas very soon. YUK was in a dilemma. FONG was upset with her naked back showing in the advertisement. KIN didn’t blame her but pointed that her kung fu was not playing very well. JOE felt uneasy when FONG started dating MICHAEL. PO told him that he should be in love with FONG, and encouraged him to reveal his love. JOE had good performance in his work. NAM began to change his attitude on him. LAM took this chance and asked JOE to return home. The father and son relationship was restored. KIT lost in his investment and was in debt. He was distressed and met YUNG. They quarreled. From their conversation, YUK knew that KIT had killed WAI. She told PO but he doubted.

1x18 - Episode 18

August 25, 1999

PO recalled his childhood with KIT and felt heart-broken with what KIT had done. KIT had no alternative but to work for KUEN. He was surprised to know that KUEN was planning to kidnap NAM. PO expressed to KIT that he knew he was the murderer. KIT promised for self-denunciation right after he had told the truth to KIN and FONG. KIT went to WAI’s graveyard to repent. He recalled how WAI was being killed. PO looked for KIT in FU’s house but failed. At the same time, FONG and KIN hardly believed KIT was the killer. PO requested YUK to inquire from YUNG if KIT had joined KUEN. YUNG slapped YUK after knowing she was in love with PO. KIN fainted suddenly and was sent to the hospital. KIT visited him secretly. PO discovered and followed him. KUEN appeared and ordered to kill PO. KIT pointed a pistol at PO and felt uncertain.

1x19 - Episode 19

August 26, 1999

KIT knocked PO down and hid him. KUEN could not catch PO and blamed KIT. NING and ROY announced their marriage on TV. KIT was filled with hatred and jealousy. KUEN and his men disguised as cleaning workers and got into the hotel. They successfully kidnapped NAM and NING and they extorted JOE for one billion. KUEN’s men intended to rape NING. KIT stood out and saved her. NING was surprised of KIT’s involvement. KIT promised to help her to escape. When JOE paid the ransom, he found that KUEN had no intention to release his father and sister. He changed his mind to use the one billion as reward to the one that could catch KUEN. KUEN’s follower KONG wanted to get the money and tried to catch KUEN. However, KUEN killed him. He put the blame on NAM and NING. He wanted to kill NING but KIT shot him dead.

1x20 - Episode 20

August 27, 1999

KIT became the team leader and negotiated with JOE again. In order to show his sincerity, KIT would release NING first; and JOE had to cancel the reward. FONG got the fax and informed JOE immediately. FONG followed JOE secretly trying to persuade KIT to self-denunciate. Unfortunately she was shot unconscious. KIT took the money and ran away with YUNG. YUNG listened to the radio and recognized YUK missed him very much. He decided to leave Hong Kong with her. PO followed YUNG and found KIT. He tried to persuade KIT by asking him to think of his family. KIT resisted and shot PO. Did PO die? Would FONG regain consciousness? What would become of KIT? How was the triangular relationship among PO, YUK and YUNG?
