But out in society, the traditions are changing and the burgeoning democracy means that the politicians will take over the power and privileges that the king has left. The battle between the king and the politicians culminates in 1920, when the monarchy is thrown into one of the biggest crises in recent times. A crisis that the crown prince also witnesses.

But when the king is hospitalized after a violent riding accident, the crown prince is appointed as ruling deputy during one of the most critical moments of the war, much against his father's wishes.
